This comes across as Bezos making a threat. It’s the 1% vs the 99%. His opinion is less than meaningless to me.

That’s because our government doesn’t serve its people. Can’t send money to schools, too busy blowing them up and making sure they display the 10 commandments. Fucking disgusting.

In 2015 I paid more taxes as a teacher than Trump paid as a then millionaire. I was not in NY.

I always hear about how these guys are such great business people that you could take all of their money, and they would just start over and get rich again. We should try that experiment. Take the billionaires’ wealth and let them try to make it back again. I would be so impressed if they could. C’mon guys, you can do it!

The strange thing is he always can give money to people instead of using them as props for political ends. He doesn’t, because he wants them as props. He could probably give 10 thousand dollars to every teacher in Queens and not notice the loss.

    6. Our idiot the president would find a way of filtering those taxes into his pocket. So much corruption in Washington DC.

Rich asshole has no idea the value of money to people that aren’t drowning in it, this and other exciting stories for you at 11.

Stop making up excuses for these monsters.

He knows exactly what he’s saying.

Everything you hear or read from Bezos is engineered, by a team of publicity managers and psychologists, he pays to make it sound exactly the right amount of innocent and relatable, for you to buy into it.

If you still spread the myth, that these lowlifes don’t know what they are doing, you are part of the problem.

double your taxes is now off the table — increase your taxes until we can see it helps teachers in Queens.

I am sure the Washington Post is gonna follow up with an article confirming Bezos’ opinion on this is “correct”

Per the wisdom of the internet, the tippy toppest tax rate was 94% in 1944. It applied to incomes over $200,000, or $2.5 mil equivalent today. That’s a good start.

    12. He’s just proving the point that we need a wealth tax.

Income isn’t how wealthy peoples’ wealth increases.

    13. RockyMountainSchrute on

He knows what he’s saying. Do you?

Bezos pays zero taxes. Doubling his taxes would still be zero. He knows this, that’s why he said it.

    14. Simplify the tax code. Remove all the loopholes. Straight forward taxable income based on the W2, less cost of healthcare. Straight forward taxable income based bands. Capital gains same.

Once you do that, avoiding tax becomes very, very hard.

    15. whelmed-and-gruntled on

Bezos wants people to give up personal taxes so he can justify removing services. He wants a board of directors instead of elected officials.

      No representation without taxation.

**It’s not about us paying too much. It’s about billionaires not paying enough. Never lose sight of that.**

      Per Google Search and ProPublica
**Historical Rates:** High-profile investigations, such as those by [ProPublica](https://www.propublica.org/article/the-secret-irs-files-trove-of-never-before-seen-records-reveal-how-the-wealthiest-avoid-income-tax), have noted that over multi-year spans, the billions he has paid in taxes accounted for a “true tax rate” of around (1%) to (1.1%) when compared to his astronomical net-worth growth.

Maybe Billionaires should pay the same tax rate us regular schleps pay……Maybe the teacher might see the relief in school funding so they don’t have to buy supplies for the kids out of their own pockets

    17. Bezos knows exactly what he’s saying. Kiss Trump’s gigantic ass and he’ll give you whatever you need

    18. In a way he’s right, those taxes will go to the military and the politicians. There is a lack of political will to increase fundings in education that no amount of tax revenue will change.

    19. Stelliferous19 on

He’s using a rhetorical math trick. Doubling zero, the taxes he pays, would not help anyone. What we need to do is tax him accurately, not double.

    20. noncommonGoodsense on

Yeah because that taxpayer money will just go to Trump and the republicans banks.

    21. Rolandersec on

Hey he may be right, he may not. Let’s test it out and see what we find.

Everytime someone is interviewed by Sorkin, you barely hear him speak cause he’s deep throating them the whole time.
