I think it’s poetic justice that after spending the whole Sino-Japanese war getting bamboozled by Mao, Chiang Kai Shek finally got one over on him on the way out the door

Makes sense. If you’re gonna skedaddle off to an Island, Boats and Planes are gonna probably be pretty useful

    3. How about instead of “the great leap forward” it was “the great leap east” and Mao ordered all bath tubs in China to be converted into boats? It wouldn’t work, but less people would have died.

    4. Strategic mistake after mistake and yet it was surprising that he somehow secured the air force and navy without them defecting

    5. Navy and air forces are historically where the upper classes tended to pursue military careers so it would make sense their leadership would side mostly with the Nationalists.

    6. I love that Mao did eventually get his air force and navy

And it was comprised of 50% nationalist defectors and 50% other classes of people that the Communist party didn’t like

    7. PRC did build a fleet of wooden ships to carry out a landing but they ran into ROCS Chung Yung whose captain was running a sugar and oil smuggling business on the side and got wiped out.

    8. ” By golly, Where could I possibly have put my navy and airforce?” * Suspiciously navy and airforce shaped stomach bulge *
