    1. Had this same image in mind when I read the news. Underpants nomes are one of my OG influences.

I firmly believe that the underpants gnomes from South Park still have a better plan than Trump.

I think he thought if you capture a country’s leader, you’ve taken over. There was a MAGA guy during Biden’s term who tried to ram his way into the White House. His “plan” was to get into the Oval Office and, because being physically in the Oval Office meant you were President, issue a bunch of orders to arrest Biden. It’s insane, but that’s the level of logical discourse these people have.

The profit will be for him or his kids personally.

      It’s not a policy it’s a grift.

    5. I can’t believe we got into a war even stupider and with less definable criteria than the Iraq wars.

I remember when, *well* into the Iraq occupation, the administration *finally* created a set of goals that we had, presumably the entire time, done the whole “killing hundreds of thousands and displacing” thing to achieve.

And then promptly failed every single goal they set for themselves.

And *this is worse than that.*

It’s weird. You can have a puppethead at the top, you can even get him a loyal staff. You can suspend whatever democratic or “democratic” assembly they have but then you still have an entire bureaucracy of Venezuelans who may or may not take orders from the US installed puppets. The country is made up of 23 states, who may just start ignoring the federal layer and go half independent and work together where needed.

They can seize the oilfields and refineries, put a ring of the US military around it and restart things, but pipelines are long. Roads are long, you’re not going to get a smooth flow from source to processing to shipping. Venezualan crude is of poor quality, needs a lot of processing so once you finally have it in a tanker and you factor in the military costs, the cost of rebuilding the infrastructure in the first place, and after each sabotage, the cost of US oil specialists and their protection details the 17 trillion dollars worth of oil cost 16 trillion to get out of the ground and shipped.
