One of the many enigmatic artifacts of Japan’s distant past in Asuka village, this megalith has been carved with the face of a turtle. Both the time of construction and its purpose are unknown, and although several theories have been put forward, no conclusion has been reached [685×986]

Everyone seems to forget about people making art just for the hell of it. I’m pretty sure humans have done it forever.

Gonna take a wild guess and be like every archeologist and say it was maybe a carving of a god, probably did like chanting and human sacrifice. 

Honestly, I think it’s a cute turtle and someone did it one day because they were bored.
