Not people, reddit. Often it is proven how insignificant reddit is as a tool to measure peoples’ opinions. It’s an echochamber.

I’ve seen this meme posted a million times, the only thing that changes is the format and the movie they’re talking about in it.
I also think it’s disingenuous to use a kid’s movie for this criticism, kids don’t give two shits about sequels, and parents will take their kids to it regardless.
Alright, that’s enough of me bitching about this unoriginal meme

It’s that simple, then a great movie like Hoppers doesn’t do great at the box office.
Meanwhile Moana live action is gonna do crazy numbers and people will still complain that they don’t do enough original movies.
Sequels basically guarantee ROI

Yet every Hollywood Critic, Reviewer and almost every general audience member says the movie was good but why did it have to to exist? The movie is currently the lowest rating Toy Story movie at a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
92%… You can see why they are still making them, they are good quality movies. Aren’t good movies something we should want over bad creative endeavors attempting to reach that level of quality in it’s first go?

People complain about lack of originality but still show up to the box office on opening weekend every single time. Nostalgia is a powerful drug

Thier original stuff has been ass for a while, it’s no wonder why people keep going back to the same tired shit over and over again. They need fresh writers and idea makers in a lot of movie studios, especially Disney.

It’s different groups of people saying different things. I genuinely don’t understand why people can’t (firmly) grasp that concept.

You know that “people” aren’t a monolith and have differing opinions and children who want to see the movie, right?

It’s almost like people like artistic works in the same series as other artistic works they already like. You know, like books. Or seasons of TV shows. Or musical artists who put out new albums. Or painters. Or any other form of art.
I’m just imagining caveman times here.

People don’t hate sequels and remakes. People hate awful stories. It’s not the I.P. at fault that studios and heads of companies are dumb
