Isnt 100 a absurd number? i think 10 would be the appropriate number
Environmental-Call32 on
I think there would be an appreciable difference between modern people and back then. Me and 99 of my clones? I’d probably get wrecked by the gorilla. Prehistoric people that have to deal with that crap on a day to day basis? 100 is probably too many

Actually agree, 100 is way to many for it to be an actual debatable question but:
1: we are not at ALL even close to as powerful as our ancestors from that time were, back then you NEEDED to practically be an apex predator to survive at all
2: I believe the point of the question is without weopons, like one guy can take a gorilla if he has a gun, and tbh I’m not sure if our ancestors would have survived without throwable spears

Modern humans are relatively overweight, non athletic, and have little hunting skill. If given spears, I think humans from 10,000 years ago beat modern humans in spear hunting 10 to 1

Humans can kick harder than a gorilla can punch too. Gorillas aren’t really evolved to throw hard punches because they aren’t evolved to throw like we are. So they would have to rip us apart which isn’t as quick or versatile as punching. Add to this the fact that gorillas are one of the most docile primates and you have a very unfair fight in favor of the humans

I’m so tired of this silly meme. The picture is from ice age and the humans in that picture lost that fight.

I think the question implies 10 (not 100) naked men who have no tools and who are naked with no prior planning.
In which case, they would all die if they were to have a fight to the death with a male fully grown silverback gorilla.

A lot of people saying something about their spears as if that’s the only reason they could do this, however there is strong evidence our ancestors used to walk and funnel herds or large animals like this to dangerous terrain and just walk them off the cliff.
Humans are intelligent, resourceful, and have amazing stamina. A gorilla wouldn’t win against 3-4 people if you focus on the nature of a gorilla rather than the fantasy of how they would use their strength.

Like most large and strong animals the only way humans will succeed is by wearing the animal out to complete exhaustion then attacking its weakest vital points.
Humans are built for endurance and we hunted prey historically by chasing them to exhaustion then going in for the kill.
You would probably have to sacrifice several humans but eventually after relentless pursuit the gorilla would be completely exhausted before the humans then you could go for its jugular with ease.

The power and speed of an enraged dominant male gorilla is insane. If it’s a purely life or death situation they MAYBE the 100 men could keep it together and pile on. If you had 100 fearless men then they could win easily.
But in the open where the gorilla has free rein to use its strength and agility and the humans have the ability to run away, even if they started off confident, I don’t know man. The most likely outcome is that the gorilla would run away and anyone stupid enough to catch up would get ripped limb from limb. Then people would stop following.
It would take a large male gorilla less than one second per kill/incapacitation.

Men have been asking this question for hundreds of years:
“…he is more like a Giant in stature, than a man: for he is very tall, [and] hath a man’s face, hollow-eyed, with long haire vpon his browes… They goe many together, and kill many… [they] are never taken alive, because they are so strong, that ten men cannot hold one of them…”

Assuming a spontaneous confrontation between 100 unarmed men with no prep time and an angry silverback defending it’s territory (meaning it’s unlikely to flee), 100 men would still win, but only after suffering catastrophic losses, simply because the Gorilla would eventually get tired.
If we assume the humans have prep time, that drastically changes the scenario. 10 would probably be enough with some traps and a plan and basic weapons fashioned from whatever is around them.
