We have no idea when this picture was taken other than “sunny.” This box is located in Santa Cruz California (according to the sticker at the bottom) and currently it’s like mid 60s. That box also has way more shade and would not get nearly as hot as a car interior. Furthermore slightly degraded from heat naloxone is better than no naloxone.

Anyone in this thread who thinks Narcan encourages people to use is fully out of touch. No one wants to be Narcan’d. Opiod deaths are down in lots of places. Harm reduction saves lives.

We have 2 kits in my house like having fire extinguishers stop fires you don’t have, we are ready for ODs we don’t expect to have.
Lots of places to get them for free but also easy to buy.

I love that this is available, but hate that there is a need.

If you live in a neighborhood that is having so many overdoses it needs a narcan box on the street corner, you’re living in the wrong neighborhood bud

That is a great harm-reduction method to dealing with addiction in communities

Holy shit so many people are so pissed off about this. As someone whose girlfriend has survived an overdose and since gotten clean, I’m happy whenever I see these. Would it be better if they weren’t needed? Sure. It would also be better if fire extinguishers and defibrillators weren’t needed too, but that just isn’t the reality

my sister passed from an overdose and i wish someone had been around to give her this. we will never stop drug use, but we can reduce harm.

That stuff saves lives and is easy to administer
Warning: it sends the overdose victim into rather unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes this will make the victim act out, sometimes to the point of violence, so if you feel you cannot potentially deal with that then save this lifesaving med for someone who can

Saying this is effectively helping the drug problem, is like saying little boxes like this filled with tourniquets is helping gun violence.
Both boxes ignore the underlying mental health issues. Why not spend money fixing that…

Sad state of affairs when you have to have “free overdose kits” in your neighborhood.

I’d prefer forced treatment to this
Kind of dystopian
It’s in boxes it’s not exposed to direct sun.
