Approximately taken around the 1930s/40s. She was born in 1919, I remember her fondly. My mother still makes great-depression era recipes that Nanny taught her during her childhood.

One of these recipes was for “breadballs” instead of meatballs. Basically, during the depression- people substituted meat with bread because it was cheaper. So a lot of recipes that were meat-based became bread-based. If anyone is curious, I’ll get the recipe.

    1. She has such a lovely, warm smile. It is wonderful that your family keeps her recipes alive today.

    2. Wow, she looks like she just stepped out of a glamorous movie scene seriously, can we bring back those fabulous hats?

By popular demand, here’s how you make breadballs! No exact measurements have really ever been used for the recipe, so it may be some trial and error before you get the right texture

1 loaf of Italian bread, broken into small pieces
A small amount of water to help the bread combine but not too much
      Breadcrumbs
      Salt & pepper to taste
      Parmesan cheese
      One egg

Mix together with your hands, form into balls and cook them the same way you’d do a meatball until golden brown (they’re better when pan fried!)
