    1. Basically after the killing of 4 US infantrymen by a remote detonated mine (IED was not a military phonetic yet in 1993). The US sent Task Force Ranger, which encompassed the Army Rangers, Delta Force, Navy Seals, Air force para rescue, and the nightstalkers, to Somalia to kill or capture the SNA warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. The reason the US military was in Somalia in the first place was to guard UN food distribution and stabilize the country by introducing law and order. Most notably by revitalizing the Somali Police Force in Mogadishu.

    2. That whole affair really was a complete clown show.

The ’90s really were a watershed period for UN peacekeeping in so many ways, as established Western players stepped away and the new guard took over.

One of the times where the US Hubris become their enemy. Apparently not even bringing the necessary gear thinking “it’d be a breeze”…

    4. USA loves killing civilians what’s new, also they went to one city, controlled by one clan. Had you travelled 100km north you can probably find another clan at the time that wanted to kill the people in Mogadishu at the peak of the civil war. Also trying to take over pockets of a war torn country and expand your influence isn’t aid, it’s called annexing.
