I have a real love hate relation with people who make videos like these. Because so many are not there to highlight the suffering and bring light to these people’s lives. They are there as tourists. Philippines has a huge poverty problem, not unlike many other poor countries. It’s sad to see people resorting to living like this just to survive.

Every Filipino mom I know is a nurse or nurse adjacent and they greatly value education and lifting themselves out of poverty through education. In so many poor countries, the people are failed by their government.

living under a major highway in tiny plywood boxes for 50 bucks is crazy. mafias stealing power and water right under the government’s nose. local officials are definitely getting a cut from that rent, no way this runs without them.

I’m Brazilian, we have many slums but not even people here do this, why do they do this?

    4. Isn’t a slum more preferable than this? They get overcharged here as well! What the hell!

    5. If a tourist could find them out i am pretty sure the government are very aware what is happening.

They probably get their cut to keep it going.

I hate the tone of this. They’re not fascinating “underground communities”, they’re people living in abject poverty. He’s acting like he came across an uncontacted people, or an underground arts collective.

    7. So what happens when it rains pretty good? Not like the Philippines isn’t known for rain.

And this is why on the odd occasion I do play mobile games, when I see Thai, Viet and Filipino whales dropping like 6 figures into it, I feel so utterly disgusted.

The children need to be removed from that environment asap. Wtf goes on down there??? Sad and creepy.

Government should be held accountable for this. Why aren’t people in the Philippines revolting?

Oh my God! Now I get why these people work for such money in other countries.
Now I understood the magnitude of poverty there.

    12. Mmw there will be a storm that will inundate the people living there and their homes will become their tomb.

    13. Fucking Christ. No one should be subject to exist like this. That’s beyond dehumanizing. I would ask “how can the government let this happen?” But I’m from the US so I know exactly how. These people deserve so much better.

    14. Selling electricity and water 9 to 13 times the surface rate.

    15. I’m always amazed by such videos. But also, always breaks my heart when I see children. I mean, adults are fine, live wherever but I think such living is not for children.

    16. Feels very USA-like. Are those Philippines copying the US or the other way around?

    17. This guy talking like Steve Irwin while sightseeing extreme poverty is peak influencer cringe.

    18. He sounds awfully excited to wade through arguably some of the poorest living conditions possible.

    19. Andrew Fraser has, in a very short amount of time, become one of my favorite content creators. Dude does consistently high quailty, interesting content that the average Youtuber would never touch with a ten foot pole.

    20. Gather around gather around one and all to witness just how far the wealth disparity will go! Be amazed at how these individuals still have to pay to live in subhuman conditions! Be awed by the filth they need to consume to survive! Be mesmerized by the impossible choices and sacrifices of basic amenities you take for granted they make in order to get by!

Modern day freak shows, framed under the lens “of bringing attention to the subject.” Maybe this guy is different but usually the people put on display in these videos do not see a dime of revenue or any kind of support from the creator profiting on their struggle
