31C in my flat right now. On the plus side it’s only 45% humidity – I’ll take that over cooler but more humid weather any day.

Is this saying that 24 is a very hot day in May for the UK? Is that very hot for the UK in general or just this early in the year?
I’m asking from the southeast US where it’s currently 31C and still rising.

Good time to invest into reverse cycle AC units.

Reading about these heat records on the BBC, it looks like a lot were at airports. Surely that would skew the data somewhat with the effect of the tarmac absorbing the heat (e.g. “urban heat island”).
Is there any sort of correction being done for this effect to make a more meaningful comparison to the early-mid 1900s?

As a Brit it’s depressigly funny that our version of ‘red hot’ is 18c.
