Yeah, well they also call it the “land of the free, the home of the brave” despite the fact that we’ve got more people in prison than anywhere else in the world, regardless of population size, and a huge portion of the country is terrified of immigrants as if they’re wandering the suburbs of New Hampshire looking for already-occupied houses to squat in while they steal your accounting job.

I still remember having to recite that thing every single day and not understanding half the words I was saying.

The fact they force children to swear fealty to a piece of cloth in the first place is disturbing.

I notice republicans/MAGA scream a lot about liberty/freedom, but want kids to have to recite an oath of fealty to the state every single school day.
And if you object, they’ll say you hate freedom.

I’m less concerned about kids having to recite it and more aggravated that they are not taught the importance of having a nation with liberty and justice for all.
The critical piece of the pledge is worthless if you don’t actually live those ideas.

Yaaay, empty signifiers that truly mean nothing because they never really existed, we love it
Well, in one case they were just words; in the other, they’re just words! Hope that helps.
We also grew up hearing cigarettes and alcohol are bad and now it “just think about the poor shareholders.”
One nation, with liberty for the rich, “justice” for the dissenters, and AI powered thought policing for all.
Simple explanation. They don’t actually believe that of the pledge. It’s only the blind loyalty part that matters.
