“30 days hath September, April, June, and November”

Then just remember Feb is the extra weird one.

It’s a dozen months, not exactly splitting the atom here.

    2. I’ll admit, I’m also surprised at how many people are saying “I did learn it that way too”.

I have seriously never met anyone else before who learned it this way, and most people when I show them immediately are like “no way that doesn’t work!”

    3. i was taught this is school, like it was a normal thing to learn in my elementary school

I was never taught this in school, and it’s the first time I’ve seen this method of fighting it out.

They taught my class this in school. They failed, however, to teach us the months at any point in time…

I learned both. The knuckles thing is really slow hence a quick rhyme, much simpler and better

    7. I learned that in school. They were pretty keen on hand mnemonics in general, I think? We also had some for physics – field directions etc – and the whole counting to twelve on one hand bit in maths. I also seem to recall something in music lessons, but I’m no longer sure what it was.

    8. 1) The months alternate between 31 and 30 or less.
      2) The only exception to rule 1) is July/August, where the alternating pattern skips.

Et voila. Everyone knows that February is the weird month with 28/29 days, so that combined with those two rules is enough to figure out how many days any month has.

We did a song for it in kindergarten in my school so we actually learned it in music class. Highly effective, actually, in terms of long-term memorization. I could recite it word for word even now, but I don’t want to type it out.

    10. Don’t forget that March has 31 days, you wouldn’t want to push all your meetings to March 31st thinking it don’t exist, and then have to have all of them on one day!

Parents and other non-school are supposed to teach kids some stuff as well. It needs to be a collective process.

30 days hath September, April, June and November. All the rest have 31 excepting February alone which has 28 days clear and 29 in each leap year

I learned the poem in school and the knuckles from my parents. I typically use the poem, mainly because I’m usually doing something with my hands, like typing, when I want to know, but also because there’s something cool about reciting a 16th century poem as a mnemonic.

I didn’t learn the knuckle thing but the “poem” (shitty as it is) worked for me

Or just remember they alternate except for july august and december januarry

    16. I was taught this in Italian school: “30 days at November, with April, June and September. Of 28 there is one, and everyone else is 31”.

I learned the days of the months by counting knuckles in first grade, 1978. Use it to this day.

    18. I just ask the pople around me who then proceed to question why they dont know before someone pulls out the calendar app

    19. 30 days has September, April, June, and November. All the rest have 31, excepting February alone, which has 28 days clear and 29 each leap year.

I was not taught anything in school about how to remember which months have 30 days… i learned the knuckles thing as an adult

My math teacher taught us this in 1st grade…still use it as an adult it’s just helpful
