To be fair, he has rambled countless times about how he came up with “dumocrats” and how a lot of people don’t know this but dumb is spelled with a B but he took the B out and traded the E for a U and that’s how he came up with it because a lot of people don’t know that dumb is spelled with a B but that’s okay because he just traded the E for a U.

You repeat the lie over and over so when your guy rolls in and acts extremely divisive (or corrupt, or abuses his powers, etc, etc), you can claim that he’s just acting like his opponent did (despite the fact that the opponent never really acted like that at all) and all the followers will “whatabout” the issue into oblivion.
