Its because school was focusing on the boring but still important details. Dates, battles, day to day lives and historical figures most of us dont care about. Theyd also leave out the interesting parts from the battles and just focus on why they happened. Learning history as a hobby feels better because you can skip any boring details and just learn the fun stuff instead
