For a country like America to have such poorly funded schools, terrible workers rights and no universal healthcare is insane. And anyone who wants better is called a socialist

Plus not a childrapist as president. That makes people happy too

In fairness we are also the 8th largest consumer of antidepressants, which may skew things. But that also comes with the caveat that I haven’t been able to find data for US antidepressant consumption

I just want a government/country that works for us, not against us.

I mean, you can disagree with the tax rate and yet not let it be the determining factor of your personal happiness.

Because the government provides so much for the average citizen. You don’t require as much money to live on. It’s called socialism and works on a smalll scale smallish countries

It’s still socialism.

But… you still pay the same percentage on taxes. Your government isn’t spending any less. They only choose to spent a very big chunk on defense. And you’re just postponing payment. Your governmental debt is by far the highest per capita in the world. You folks don’t pay the taxes, you just let your government borrow it and pass the bill on to your kids.

Dane here. He is right. For example my effective tax is 35%.
That’s it. Ans I even make a fairly nice wage. Not great. But not terrible.
I live very comfortable and I know that I won’t get into any unforseen thing that will suddenly cost me a lot.
I live a stress-free life. It’s good. It’s great here.
I was paying in Belgium 53% income tax, 62% on any bonus, 22% VAT and I would make and raised a lot of kids on that. Never for once did I think for the amount that went out of my salary didnt allow us to have a very happy household. We did get so much from the state for what we put into it.

Because we actually enjoy that there is a safetynet for us all, if we get sick or have an accident. Because we don’t have to look the other way, when driving past streets filled with homeless people. Because we actually want to help each other, more than have a bigger car ourselves.
It’s not exactly rocket science – if you have a better conscience you are happier.

It’s so nice to know that the Nordic welfare states are failing because we’ve followed America in its economic death spiral

Don’t forget about religion. Huge correlation between amount of practicing religious population and happiness.
