Well yeah? There’s only so much time in the day, and I don’t really have the time or energy to take up learning how to draw when I already work full time and have more pertinent things to learn.

    2. It’s not nearly that simple and comes down to purpose vs effort.

First, it is my belief that AI image generation should never be used commercially. Or even publicly outside of dedicated sites. If you’re going to make a product, even if it is a free one, commission an artist or learn how to draw it yourself. There is a certain charm to the crude beginner drawings that could even benefit you.

If it is on a personal level, I don’t see a problem. Maybe you want to make yourself a custom character portrait in some RPG, maybe you want to make an illustration for your D&D with friends. This is fine, on a condition that you never try to pass it off as a real drawing.

And then there’s a grey zone, publicly sharing AI images on websites for that specific purpose.

Long story short, AI art is like genitals. Keep those in your pants and no one will complain, unless you’re on a nudist beach.

    3. I don’t use AI but I have basically two left hands and I’m right handed. I can’t write cleanly to save my life, much less draw.

Art isn’t something ANYONE can be good at with just time and hard work, at least not if you start past a certain point in your life. That’s what makes artists valuable, talent.

Amongst those who could be good artists, not everyone has the time in their lives.

I personally would rather dedicate my free time to entertainment and perfecting my (narrative) writing skills.

      i use ai to learn

no actually i just use it to write arduino code for further experimenting.

    5. as long as everything was marked AI (with a tag on the image/document/comment itself) then everything would be fine.

I do not have hundreds of hours to spend on something I don’t enjoy.

Maybe not everyone has hundreds of hours of free time to learn a hobby solely to satisfy people on the internet. Let people choose what do do with their own lives and what little free time they have

Sure. I want a drawing for a meme or specific situation right now, but I shouldn’t use it and spend 10 years learning how to draw instead, just because crybaby AI haters want it. Hilarious.

    9. TheGrimmBorne on

I can’t learn, my vision leads me to having basically 0 depth perception which is in general extremely problematic, but also means that I cannot properly draw or shade things 😛

    10. ive used ai a bit recently and honestly thats basically it, i draw for shit but i got into designing digital assets for vrchat so i used ai to turn my crappy little sketches into something that actually resembles what ive got in my head, the alternative is spending a lot of time practicing and getting better at a skill i dont particularly care for.

    11. Idk. I made a custom extension for a boardgame for a friend and used AI for the picture. I certainly never put the effort to draw, but I wouldn’t have been able to draw 50 cards on my free time in 3 weeks anyway.

I use my own imagination an talent (or lack there of ;( ) for some things, other I know I’m bad and won’t improve, and AI allowed me to make this gift 🤷‍♂️

    12. This whole argument is so absurd to me. When a snobby chef insults people for buying fast food instead of cooking everything they eat from scratch we recognize it as a moronic argument, but somehow it’s normal to tell people to dedicate a bunch of time and effort learning to draw just to make a shitpost or something.

    13. im in the literal last week of my school for game dev (which i actually cant attend) and my teacher has taught us next to nothing and just uses ai for it

ive lost any and all care for my “school”

    14. You underestimate my negative talent, you could give me 10 minutes at any art university and every prof would sing songs of praise of AI to make me use it just to stop me from ever picking up a brush again.

AI chuds are out in force today. OP really pushed someone’s button with this post.

But honestly? This post is so incredibly true. Whether due to time constraints or personal motivation, they don’t want to learn. And that’s why a subset of talentless individuals use AI.

If they’re really determined not to learn to draw, then they can commission an artist. “But art costs money” they’ll say. Yeah. It does. Why do you think artists spent hours trying to master their craft? And AI generated images aren’t even nearly as good as a final product from an artist. The most it should be used for is a rough draft, not the be all end all.

In my opinion AI is most useful at the moment as a more advanced search engine, as long as it sources its data. It can skim thousands of comments, articles, and websites, and get you the most critical pieces of information that would have taken hours to sift through. As long as it sources the information so that way there is no way to confuse the context, then that’s fine.

Pretty much it’s exactly because of this that AI will remain. Speaking frankly, there’s way too much stuff to do on earth, some people don’t have the time nor the desire to study art.

But just because you don’t want to learn art doesn’t mean you have no use for it. Some people want a cool profile photos, other people want decent photos for presentations. Some people just want to show how they feel but lack ways to express it. (It’s why they made emojis.)

So yeah, if given an easy way to do that, a lot of people will use it. And frankly we all know one day we’re not gonna be able to tell real art from fake art 90% of the time, so once that happens everyone’s gonna start using AI non-stop.

Im just utter trash at drawing took art class and everything I just can’t draw my hand writing is terrible also i spent most of my school years working on that and it never got better

    18. Huh. That was the common reason for using 3d rendering back when it was considered not art as well. In my case? I do not use AI, but can’t draw is somewhat literal. I have incomplete neuro path ways in my hands that many attempts at drawing and writing by hand painful and disrupt my find motor control.

Reading most of these comments feels like taking cyanide.

How did we come to a point where learning is treated as something just beyond us ?

How did we come to a point where we are so determined in trivializing and diminishing everything around in the name of “I don’t have talent or time” ?

Gosh, this timeline is getting shittier by the minute

    20. I can’t draw due to a tendon disorder and a nerve condition to make my hands shake

Y’all can fuck off when I use AI for personal art

    21. While i dont play with those ai thingies, id change the bottom text to “i use ai because i dont wanna waste hundreds of hours learning to draw just because i need one picture”
