This video was taken in India, which is currently the hottest country in the world. No water heater just tap water thats 124F or 51C. Exposure over 3 minutes could cause first degree burns, yet currently for millions of people this is a daily fight.

In southern AZ in the summer it’s impossible to get cold water out of the tap, so some people have a tank buried deep in their back yard where the water headed for the cold water side of the plumbing is cooled underground before coming into the house. Water headed for the hot side of the plumbing comes in without going through the tank. I was pretty impressed when I saw that for the first time.
The cold water tap is supposed to be as hot, or hotter than the air temperature?
No.
Sorry India, the United States is the hottest country in the world. There’s this jerk I know that won’t shut up about it.
For more context – 80-90% of Indian houses have overhead watertanks where water is stored. Once a day underground municipality pipelines supply it with water. This stored water then heats up to extreme temperatures and is used by smaller pipes that connect to taps inside the house. Many houses have black plastic tanks which amplify heat, but this particular video was taken from a house having a yellow painted concrete water tank.
That’s harsh. What’s highest temperature outside?
Boiling hot but still needs boiling before you drink it!
Safe travels tip: Indian tap water there isn’t safe for visitors because of leaky infrastructure and bacteria. Keep a bottle of mineral water by the sink even just for brushing your teeth, and skip the ice cubes in your drinks!
HI! Hey! An Indian gent I worked with (a thousand years ago) said something to the effect that every home where he lived had a terracotta pot in their kitchen that was kept filled with water. It would cool down via evaporation, and so that is what folks would drink. Is that the same where you are?
“Of course it’s hot. It’s India. It’s always hot.”
To everyone saying this is India’s problem, Well climate change doesnt follow man made boundaries. Today this is an extreme heat wave in India, tomorrow it will be a drought in mexico, a severe tornado in texas, a giant storm in bahamas, or the harshest blizzard in new york. We like to blame others, but that wont help our collective fate. Thats why its vital to take care of climate change in every individual nation itself. India is definitely responsible for climate change but so is every other nation in one way or the other.
Hit reverse on the heat pump
When I worked in marble bar , Western Australia, the pipes run overground and get hot. I’d fill the bath in the morning before work so I’d have cool water for a wash when I got home.
another day of thanking god for not making me be born in india:
You need a “domestic water chiller”. These systems are used in extremely hot regions to cool down the “cold” water in plumbing when its sourced very hot.
Got that exact same kitchen thermometer. It’s it’s really good
If it climbs to 60 or 70 deg c. They can drink out of the tap soon
That is also prime Legionella bacteria breeding ground there.
Damn that sucks
I hate where i was born but there sure are worse places
India’s current government is the most corrupt in the country’s history and among the worst anywhere in the world.
It runs a de facto dictatorship, shielding the public from real issues while flooding them with religious distractions.
I guess I’ll have some Ministry for the Future inspired nightmares again tonight.
Nobody will be able to survive in parts of India or else where along the equator in a few years. All the far right fools so gung ho to keep drilling oil will have a dilemma because they’re also the same people who loath immigrants but they’re creating the condition where mass immigration to cooler parts of the world is innevitable.
even when hot water is free they dont bath 😃
124 has never in the history of the world caused a first degree burn….
Plumbers in the U.S. are legally required to limit hot water shower temp to 120f.
My water heater is set at maximum 130° F. 😟
But do you even have tap water. Or do you just have a rooftop storage tank that you fill yourself.
Delhi belly and banga burn
I have a different problem, my tap water is so cold that it makes your hands numb within 3 seconds
Wow, I think there’s a good case to argue that this country is hell on earth
