I DISTINCTLY remember when magazines and catalogs started to (in most cases, misuse and abuse) use photoshop.
At first it was really awkward and incredibly noticeable if you had an graphics background. And then, all of a sudden it was everywhere. And then, after that, crap phone filters.
Nothing looks as good as real life, and if you disagree, it’s because you’ve never experienced real life. Magazine/tik tok/ fashion zombies are the worst.

I mean let’s not exaggerate. In the 90s, they had just as many filters:
* Photoshop
* Makeup
* Lighting
* Camera angles
* Plastic surgery
* Photoshoots booked by the talent
But yes, some Papparazzi wanted to expose reality because the gap between beautiful perception and reality always makes news.

Winona Ryder in a leather jacket and a Tom Waits tee is a masterclass in effortless cool that modern curation just cannot replicate

It’s the flash. The flash add the cadid feel. And no matter how much people try to fake it, the people in fake flash photos never have an authentic look.

I turned 20 in 1999. The 90s were an incredible time to be a teenager.

Disagree. The quality of cameras back then really makes it obvious it’s not real.

Less plastic surgery. Or less obvious plastic surgery.

Candid shots are the best
The ‘90s (and before) WERE more real.
Paparazzi sucked then, and they suck now.
