Robins are plentiful in my area, so I was wondering why? Turns out they’re federally protected.
Dealership should probably give them a loaner or give them a different but same spec f-250, though.

That’s the correct thing to do. The truck’s not going anywhere. It will be there once the nest is empty.
If I was the owner, I’d be there on the daily helping mom get her chicks fed and grown and yea, I’d name the truck…Robin.

A predator is gonna find that nest pretty quickly.

You can literally just contact someone with a permit to move it. I learned about these people when dealing with geese

Most people don’t realize how often American Robins were seen as a food source during the Great Depression. I hope it never gets that desperate again

I lived on a narrowboat on the river Thames (UK). It needed a lot of work and I had arranged a slot in the boat yard to work on the hull. Three days before my slot was due, a duck made a nest on the back of my boat, by the tiller, and laid an egg. The law dictates I had to wait for it to hatch before I could move the boat and ended up waiting another month after that for another slot.

If they sold it, they no longer own it.

I used to work in an environmentally sensitive area on a massive infrastructure project, we had birds nest in one of the haul trucks that was parked on the edge of the lay down and about 20 pieces of equipment couldn’t be used until the eggs hatched and the hatchlings were old enough to leave. Several millions in extra costs.

I would buy a truck from a dealer that won’t move the nest. If they act like a victim about it tho, they can F off.

Songbirds fledge in about two weeks. They won’t have to wait that long

I once paused construction on a roofing job to let dove eggs hatch and fledge. There were plenty of other things to do on that house so we didn’t slow down the build. On the next house we did, we covered gap between the top plate and roof decking at the eaves FAST so they wouldn’t try it again.
If there are eggs or chicks we wait. An empty nest gets swept.

You can call a wildlife professional through your states fish and game department and they are licensed to come and move the nest…..
It’s in a dangerous high traffic area, and a customers dog or child could disturb or knock it over on accident!! And if you have stray cats in the area them to!!

I would assume fish and wildlife can come out and safely move it off the tire.

Id be fine with that personally. And honestly its a good sign that the dealer you went to has basic morals and kindness. Major green flag.

Just buy a new tire. Undo the lugs. Forklift the truck away without touching the tire. Install new tire.

This is why you always ask to test-drive a car right before buying it. That way you’ll always know if a federally protected bird has built a nest on a tire before you’ve made your purchase.

Can’t give this bs a thumbs up, no matter how I look at it! I’ve seen nests (any animal) relocated gently, easily and intact, successfull a few times. As to what this shenanigan’s all about, who knows? Maybe another auto industry pitty making attempt by the commercial brain tweakers!?
I definitely like birds and enjoy seeing their freedom respected.
Absolutely no waiting time for the client. He deserves a no cost and new replacement until the new mom and chics are happily and healthily:) fledged.

My old man dealt with this all the time on the farm, they’d build on top of tractor tires, under the fender. He would just pound a post in beside the wheel, with a little wooden box on top. Then he’d move the nest into the box and drive the tractor away. Robin never gave a shit.
