Im American and growing up we had 10gb for the month. This wasn’t even that long ago my parents got access to unlimited internet about a year after I graduated, so 2018.
What’s going on? Has something happened for Egypt to be getting metered internet?

Reason being?
This reminds me of the time at&t had a 50gb limit on their dsl. Shit was awful to work around, I only made it 3 months before opting to pay the more expensive company.
Before Jio we Indians used to make 1gb last the whole month

Like others, I definitely thought this was about Ancient Egypt and was confused. I’m not used to seeing Egypt referenced outside of r/historymemes tbh
10 years ago, I lived in rural Arizona, and we had satellite internet through HughesNet. Only allowed 100 GB a month, and the download/upload speeds were atrocious. Heck, I remember purposefully setting all of my videos to quality, because 30 minutes of SD was only ~100 MB. Often ran out of data the last week, and you could forget about gaming online at all.

That’s absurd. I’ve had unlimited internet 25 years ago. Currently I’m paying 15€ for gigabit connection and TV.

It greatly benefits Egypt’s current regime to limit Internet access because it allows them to curtail any opposition that may form. I don’t see them allowing change unless their hands are forced
Metered internet, in 2026, specially in GBs, considering that just downloading a modern game or 2 will consume it all, is absolute bs
It would be less absurd if it was like 1tb or something but again, at that point just make it unlimited
brother at least you have internet. right now our internet has been cut off and only some white listed websites work (mainly google and some resources for developers). and the only way to connect to internet is buying VPNs from people whom they buy from rich or powerful people who have “white internet”, and it’s fucking 2 dollar for a gigabyte.(I live in iran btw)

My partner and I use approx 3TB a month according to Unify. 150GB would last us one to two days at best.
We do some self hosting here n there
I myself use 120 GB per month and that is if I don’t download anything. There is no way 140 GB is anough for a family.
Scrolling through all these comments made me realize I’m not as chronically online as most people, in comparison it’s like I touch grass all day long. However that’s patently false, but thank you to everyone for giving me an ego boost.
