We hike and camp over night in national parks near our home in Canberra and I have noticed that our hiking poles get nibbled on during the night. The Roos clearly like the soft foam part !

They also brush against the tent in the middle of the night which can be a surprise !

    2. As an American, I find this to be delightful. Human sized rodent bites. Y’all live in a different reality.

As an American id shat myself if anything that big brushed the tent here… Our most deadly animals are actually deer, but im not fond of getting that close to any of the big boys here.

that’s a wild sight! can’t say i’ve seen a kangaroo take a liking to hiking poles before. they really do have some interesting habits, huh?

    5. In the U.S. deer will chew your grips because they’re attracted to the salt from your sweat. My guess is it holds the same appeal for kangaroos.

I once met some hikers in the Catskill mountains (USA, New York State) many years ago. The tops of their leather hiking boots were completely gone. They had left them outside their tent and porcupines ate the leather.

This is like a “the dog ate my homework” situation. You probably chew on pencils too 😏

As an Australian, are you sure it wasn’t wombats? They are more prone to chewing random objects than kangaroos.
