To avoid any controversy, the Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest overall, but not necessarily the largest in terms of exhibition space. It has a children’s museum, a restoration center, restaurants, and shops. The museum houses over 100,000 artifacts, including the complete Tutankhamun collection in dedicated halls. This collection had never been displayed before, not even in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, due to space constraints at the time. The museum achieved record numbers, attracting over 18,000 visitors on its opening day alone. On some days, the number reached 40,000 and even 50,000, exceeding the museum’s capacity. This led to a complete shift to online pre-booking.

You can read more about the museum on the Wikipedia page I wrote, which can be found here.

    2. t is an absolutely breathtaking architectural masterpiece. Standing right next to the pyramids, it perfectly bridges Egypt’s ancient history with the modern world.

    3. 15k-18k visitors a day. 26€ entry free for adults (Arabs and foreigners) and 12€ for children. 13k adults X 26€ plus 3k kids X 12€ = 374.000€ a day. 365 days a year open = 136.510.000€ per year.

Make sure you get a crappy photo using your phone. That Tutankhamen mask is hardly very pictured in photography.

    6. It’s crazy to think that Cleopatra is closer to us than she was to the Great Pyramids, Egypt was already ancient by then. A fitting display.

I’ve been to the previous museum. I believe it’s called The Antikhana. This is on a whole other level.

    8. I wonder how much bigger it would be if the British didn’t steal anything

    9. 20 years ago I visited the National Museum in Cairo and I remember everything was cramped. Good to know that the new museum won’t have this problem!

I am ready for AI to be put to some good use and give us completely immersive (maybe VR) experiences of what Ancient Egypt and other historical periods would have looked like. Even the best CGI just can’t quite do it. Maybe this already exists.
