Marines fight battles, politicians lose wars.

These wars were not started to be won, only to generate defense tax dollars for contractors.

    2. Winning is not the same as not losing.

I could be oversimplifying but in Vietnam the US pulled their forces out in a ceasefire treaty; then the North broke the treaty some time later and the US simply didn’t respond and the South fell; making the US technically not a part of the losing conflict.

The war in Korea is still ongoing.

Marines is never beat. If we dies we dies, so that don’t count as beat. If we runs we don’t get beat, because we can always come back for annuva go, see?

Us doesn’t loose. They are like a 8yo kid who is about to loose football match but take his ball home saying his mom called him for dinner.

Me when I think “failed to achieve objectives – lost a war” is the same as “totally annihilated and lost country – lost a war”

I mean, if you’re counting DECLARED wars then that’s technically correct. Everything else is just a “police action” or a “tactical mission”.

      Vietnam
      Korea
      Afghanistan
      Iraq
      Iran
      Cuba

Thinking about it what have they won after WW2

    8. I mean Vietnam is now a major US ally, and they managed to basically stop the spread of communism.

Seems like a long term victory more or less.

both were militarily successful to a pretty good degree, both those wars got fumbled by the suits in Washington more than anything

    10. South Korea both exists and is a wealthy democracy, which kinda feels like a win to me.

    11. In Vietnam, they simply delegated responsibility for fighting the war to the Vietnamese who then lost instead of them.

    12. What you have to understand about the US is that they follow the British school of losing wars. It’s not a loss if they close their eyes and deny it.
