Disability resource center using a more accessible badge scanner…. Interesting?

This looks like something I would have installed on my bosses door while everyone else got regular badge readers just to piss him off.

“Excessively large” until you miss the scan three times with a normal badge reader while carrying coffee, a laptop, and your will to live.

Anyone else wondering how far away you could toss the badge and have it make contact in a way that would unlock the door. The normal pads are usually to small unless you hit it just right I feel this one you could probably get from down the hall in a couple attempts

I like the large ones. You can leave the blank (label free) proximity card in your wallet/purse and just have to brush up on it to trigger the door lock. It is great if you are carrying something. Very useful when entering a data center with a power open/close mechanism on it.

These are convenient in places where your plain looking proximity card cannot be next to your ID for security purposes.

    6. If I were to guess from the location and that sign, this may be set to detect badges held by those in wheelchairs passing by so they don’t need to reach over to have their badges be read.

Excessive: “Exceeding what is normal, necessary, or reasonable” considering the context, that badge reader is normal, necessary, and reasonable. 🤓

This probably allows people to just walk by and open the door as long as they have a badge on them. A little bit faster and easier than putting your badge right up against a reader.
