I love how Russians always conveniently forget the part where they essentially genocided the enteire Polish diaspora in the USSR during “Polish Operation NKWD”, when blaming Poland for not letting them throught to “defend” Czechoslovakia during the Munch Agreement.
(The 1937-38 Polish Operation NKWD resulted in either mass murder or deportation to Siberia/Kazachstan of pretty much the enteire Polish Diaspora Living in the USSR at the time.)
I don’t even know what to call the soviets, at this particular time it was ruled by a Georgian with a personality cult. Same with holodomor the whole nation died over some central planning

It always boggles my mind when people blame Poland, UK and France for not accepting an alliance with USSR in exchange for Soviet troops in Poland.
You’re basically trying to protect Polish independence by giving away Polish independence.

Ah, I guess then Poland claiming Trans-Olza and being labeled as the “Greedy Hyena of Europe” is just a weird coincidence.

The Soviets didn’t have any problem with the Munich Agreement.

The Soviet Union had Holocaust numbers before the Holocaust even started.
22% of Poles were sentenced (executed or sometimes sent to camps). It’s terrible, but it wasn’t “pretty much the entire diaspora”.

The true irony is that NKVD was founded by ethnic pole Dzerzhinsky.

No one blames Poland for not allowinh the Russians in lol, i mean everyone knows they had a war like 15 years ago. The reason why people mention the Soviet proposal is, becouse its shows that Soviets where atleast trying keep the Germans in check. When that didnt work out Stalin decided to get rid of Maxim Litvinov and let Molotov handle the foreign affairs of the Soviet Union.

It should be noted that Kresy wasn’t even majority Polish. They were Belarusian or Ukrainian. Also it’s 1920s-1930s Eastern Europe. No one was victimless then.

Firstly, Poland reaped significant advantages from the breakup of Czechoslovakia and definitely would not have permitted the Soviet Union to pass through its land. Secondly, the Soviet-Czechoslovak Mutual Assistance Treaty clearly stated that if Czechoslovakia were attacked, the Soviet Union was required to offer support, but only if France also aided any of its treaty partners. Evidently, Paris showed little interest in protecting Czechoslovakia’s interests at that time. After all, France had been rather inactive in responding to Germany’s remilitarization of the Rhineland.

Even if we accept the premise that allowing the soviets access into Poland was a bad idea, the core concept that Nazi germany was not going to stop annexing former territory was not unfounded. Everyone says hindsight but even for the time their ambition of Lebensraum was well known, hell its even in Mein Kampf.
The allies thowing up their hands saying “Peace in our time” was them essentially hoping it would be enough and thought the soviets would just roll over about the issue.

It’s not discussed as much but the Baltics did accept the offers to “let the Soviets transit to get to Germany” which just ended up as a military occupation all the same

Even more shockingly, the Poles were not even singled out in this.
They did that to other groups too.
