The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by the LGBTQ+ community against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, NYC, starting in the early hours of June 28, 1969. Fed up with harassment, patrons and residents fought back, sparking six days of protests that galvanized the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.
Although the demonstrations were not the first time American LGBTQ people fought back against government-sponsored persecution of sexual minorities, the Stonewall riots marked a new beginning for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.
This is the police fault in the first place for not letting them have legal safe places to be in but we also can’t act like the place was raided for no reason a

Drag Queens are not to be trifled with. Had a coworker long ago who got drugged and dragged into an alley on a night out. Last thing they remember before waking up in the hospital is a hazy memory of their assailant getting cold-cocked and stomped to near-death by 2 queens in platform stilettos while a third princess carried them out of the alley to a waiting car. Said Queens refused to leave the waiting room until they got confirmation they had woken up.

Repost because Rule 12
You’re not even the guy!
The Stonewall Inn, located at 51 and 53 [Christopher Street](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Street), along with several other establishments in the city, was owned by the [Genovese crime family](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genovese_crime_family).[^([4])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots#cite_note-FOOTNOTEDuberman1993183-6) In 1966, three members of the Mafia invested $3,500 to turn the Stonewall Inn into a gay bar, after it had been a restaurant and a nightclub for heterosexuals. Once a week a police officer would collect envelopes of cash as a payoff known as a [gayola](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gayola), as the Stonewall Inn had no [liquor license](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquor_license).[^([44])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots#cite_note-FOOTNOTEDuberman1993185-46)[^([45])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots#cite_note-FOOTNOTECarter200468-47) It had no running water behind the bar—dirty glasses were run through tubs of water and immediately reused.[^([43])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots#cite_note-FOOTNOTEDuberman1993181-45) There were no fire exits, and the toilets overran consistently.[^([46])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots#cite_note-FOOTNOTECarter200480-48) Though the bar was not used for prostitution, drug sales and other black market activities took place. It was the only bar for gay men in New York City where dancing was allowed;[^([47])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots#cite_note-FOOTNOTEDuberman1993182-49) dancing was its main draw since its re-opening as a gay club.[^([48])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots#cite_note-FOOTNOTECarter200471-50)
