Culturally *in medieval Russia*? LMFAO no. Novgorod was very much its own distinct culture, separate from medieval Russia. I saw Russian academics debate over whether it was even really a *Slavic* culture, or should be seen as something more unto its own because of how much Hanseatic influence and exchange they experienced.l (granted , this was nearly 20 years ago, I’m sure it would be less… Spirited a debate now a days).

I have never heard anyone say anything negative about Novgorod and heard people mentioned it positively multiple times so this seems like a miss use of this meme template.
