So average wages today are about 10x higher than 1961. However the average grocery bill is definitely more than 10x higher than this. So I think it’s safe to say wages haven’t kept up with inflation.

That’s the equivalent of around $70 in today’s wages, maybe a little more depending on how you count average earnings vs. minimum wage in 1961.
