      It’s hard to read at the top but this receipt is from Steinberg’s, which was a grocery chain in Quebec back then. Explains why it says both Merci and Thank You at the bottom.

      readers digests they got from their grandma. I loved how they would have coupons for 1 cent off.

    4. So average wages today are about 10x higher than 1961. However the average grocery bill is definitely more than 10x higher than this. So I think it’s safe to say wages haven’t kept up with inflation.

      That’s the equivalent of around $70 in today’s wages, maybe a little more depending on how you count average earnings vs. minimum wage in 1961.

    6. From the days when the cashier typed in the price from a sticker on the item. The till was just an adding machine that stored cash, no stock control or anything.
