I’ve always been told my proportions are unusual, so I wanted to see how statistically odd this combination actually is.

This graph models the relationship between male height and US men’s shoe size using anthropometric population averages and published stature/foot-length correlation research (roughly based on NHANES-style datasets and studies showing a moderate positive correlation between height and foot length).

    Average adult male:

    Height: ~5’9”–5’10” (175–178 cm)

    Shoe size: ~US 10–11

    Me:

    Height: 6’1” (185 cm)

    Shoe size: US men’s 6

So I’m significantly taller than average while also having feet that are dramatically smaller than average for male populations.

    The orange X is me.

I knew it was unusual socially, but I didn’t realise how far off the regression line I’d sit until I plotted it.

This is a simulated population distribution generated from published anthropometric parameters rather than a direct raw dataset.

      Parameters were based on:

NHANES and CDC male anthropometric averages for adult height

Published studies on male stature vs foot-length correlation

Footwear industry averages for US men’s shoe sizing distributions

      Model assumptions used:

      Mean male height: 177 cm
      Height SD: 7 cm
Mean US men’s shoe size: 10.5
      Shoe size SD: 1.4
      Height/shoe-size correlation: r ≈ 0.65

The population cloud was generated using a correlated multivariate normal distribution in Python.

      Tools used:
      Python
      NumPy
      Matplotlib

    2. Very interesting. What about your hand size, are they also smaller? And what about your limbs? Feet size normally is the same length as forearm, does the same apply to you?

I genuinely need more of this. Give me stories. I’m sure you have some!

Wow, I’m 6’1″ and thought the comments about my size 9 shoes were annoying.

      My condolences.

    5. There is some guy on Reddit who it 6’5” with size 7 I believe. And he is jacked. Find him. There are dozens of you … DOZENS!

How often do people try to tip you over? Also, and this is crucial, what is their success rate?

    7. Jesus… I bet you look like these asian women who wrapped their feet to make them look so small

    8. I’ve always been conscious that I have big feet for my height. I was literally in a shoe store today and bought a slightly tight fitting shoe just so I wouldn’t be a freak.

This graph helps me realize I’m not too far off the typical person for their height. Thank you for making this!

Do you feel like you’re walking on stilts?  I mean, jebus that’s a huge difference.

Bodies can do weird things lol. Do you think it affects your balance at all? Do people ever make hoof jokes?

Well apparently my brother and I shouldn’t exist either but in the other end… Not as far off as you though… 190 & 15, 200 & 16

    12. This is the first and only time I will ask someone to post a picture of their feet…

Have you done a similar chart for women? I’d be curious to see one. That being said; I’m confused why you mention that it’s “unusual socially.” How does that topic even come up socially at all?

I also had a friend who was 6’0 and size 6. Genuinely felt bad for the guy. He would wear a size 8 so people wouldn’t make fun of him.

    15. Damn, you are an even more extreme version of me. I am 182 cm and have EU shoe size 39-40, which is pretty small. I luckily have found some shoes that fit me well and my city of Vienna has some good proper shoe makers for more formal things like work/balls if I want a perfectly fit shoe. But overall, while shoe buying has been super annoying, I do get by (ex: recently bought myself some running shoes, I was pretty much limited to a few models. All female made shoes don’t fit me due to my foot still being quite high and broad and so I need to hope there are some male shoes that are just on the lower end of the size scale)

But how do you manage? Your foot would be an EU size 36-37, there literally are almost zero male shoes of that size in my country, doubt America will be so different.

I am 6’1” and I have men’s size 16 feet, so we cancel each other out.

Are my feet really that big relative to my height? I’m 6’1 size 13

    18. You might be evolving into humanities future as digitigrades. It would make us faster!

    19. Wow that’s interesting. But if I understood correctly this is simulated data from past studies. It’s not entirely surprising that you “don’t exist” although admittedly data in your range should be extremely unusual.

    20. 5″9 size 11. depending on the shoe it can go up or down a little but that’s the avrg.

not tall but i have a solid base 😂😂

    21. the type of data point that causes the analyst to question if it was a mistake, and either omit it from the final report, or question the person that gathered that data

    22. I’m 5’10” and wear size 8.5 shoes… but I need either EE or EEE width as my feet are as wide as an average size 11.5 foot. It’s extremely annoying for me to find shoes that fit. I’m a runner and cyclist and I need to get special shoes for both, which is a pain in the ass. If I find a pair that fits, I but every pair I can get my hands on.

    23. My brother is the same height as me. I’m a size 11 and he’s a size 9. Once he came over, and left with one of my work boots and one of his.

What was REALLY impressive, is they were both left feet.

I read somewhere that these exact statistics are strongly correlated with *above* average manhood. You lucky dog.
