never realized they had replica of the statue of liberty right there in times square for ve day, that is wild to look at

    2. And people were certainly happy after this.

      From History.com:

“Exactly 3,470,000 Americans were born in 1946, marking the official beginning of the post-WWII “baby boom”. This represented a massive 20% jump from the previous year. By the time the boom ended in 1964, a total of approximately 76 million Americans had been born into this generation.”

My grandfather was in Germany as an American soldier when they heard the news over the radio.

He told them German kids that the war was over but they didn’t understand. He explained that there was no more planes flying over and then the kids got it and were jumping and celebrating.

Must have really been something to see

    4. I can’t wait to see what Times Square looks like when it finally happens. Any public space in the US really.

    5. You wonder where all the baby boomers came from. Well, it started in earnest that night!

Love taking a deep delve in to photos like this because there are so many things to see other than the ‘big picture’ that the photo portrays.

There is this old guy in a hat giving the “ok” sign, and the guy a little way behind him (approx 40 degrees to his left) who has a ‘Gorbachev’ mark on his forehead (left side of forehead rather than the right hand side).
