And the Senegalese as soon as the armistice was signed 😅 Ousmane Sembène made a film about it, which was banned in France for about a decade [Thiaroye Massacre](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiaroye_massacre)

History revisionism is so annoying. It’s like this recent trend on tiktok where everyone thinks 2016 was sunshine and rainbows

There are an estimated like 500,000 revenge killings in Germany in the year after the war.

It’s hard to study history and see people try to dumb down historical moments that they ignore that shit wasn’t all peaceful when a bunch of people declared it was. Tragedies like what the reply to the tweet gets often ignored in favor of wanting to make content on the internet
Edit: also the OP of the video straight up used racist depictions in the first few seconds?

It’s alarming being here in the super racist part of Reddit
french atrocities aside, if we are going to discuss history seriously, can we be fuckin done with the “french surrender” narrative. They were the first western power to be undone by the Blitzkrieg, and even then, they fought tooth and nail to assist allied forces with their escape before we lost the British forces to encirclement. Of course they surrendered. What else were they supposed to do?
Then, even after surrender the french underground were pivotal in undermining nazi occupation in france. The french are not innocent by any means. Their post WW2 atrocities in Nigeria and central Africa, as well as Vietnam and yes even their own soldiers should never be excused. But let’s be done with the jokes that undermine the bravery of the people who held off the nazis when no one else was going to save them.
I just hate that surrender joke. It’s so tired and lazy.

I feel France doesn’t get as harshly judged for its imperialist racism as the Brits do because they’re better at cooking

The war never even really stopped. In some ways and places it’s still going on today. But if we’re talking immediate aftermath, the examples of continued slaughter are endless. Another one I haven’t seen mentioned here is that many Jews tried to go home after liberation from the camps and promptly got murdered by their neighbors.

[Frace killed Black soldiers in West Africa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiaroye_massacre) serving in French West Africa after they protested poor working conditions and unpdaid wages.
