Fuck you talking about, on loan? We either nicked all that stuff good and proper or got a dodgy receipt from some Turkish bloke.

Hell half the stuff people say we stole from Egypt we actually stole from the French (who stole it from Egypt). Can’t tell me fighting the French and looting them is wrong.

And don’t believe that rubbish about the Sphinx being too big for us to pinch. We’ve just got nowhere flat enough to put it except Wiltshire and who wants to go to Wiltshire?

Mate I love the confidence but imagine someone broke into your house, took your grandma’s jewelry and then said ‘well actually we got a dodgy receipt from your neighbor so it’s fine.’ That’s literally the argument. The stuff isn’t yours and It never was. Return the artifacts.

I always hate the argument that the British “legally bought” it from local authorities. Because in many cases like Egypt and Greece the local authorities at the time, the Ottoman Empire, was an illegal occupying force that had no right to sell the possessions of the country it was occupying.

If we were to follow that same logic than the art stolen by the Nazi’s also shouldn’t be returned. Since the Germans also “aquired” those by “legal” means.
