When Erich Marie Remarque wrote All Quiet on the Western Front, it became a massive hit (even in France and Britain) because of it’s graphic portrayal of trench warfare, shellshock, and the hopeless situation of army life on the front. the Nazis intensely hated the book and declared it “un-German” (even more so because of Remarque’s French name), banning it and adding copies to the book burning ceremonies.

Marie Remarque, 1920: Once boys, we have been brought up once more as beasts of war.

Marie Remarque, writing in 1960: I FREAKING LOVE MOTORSPORT RACING. I WANT ALL MY NOVELS TO INVOLVE HIGH-SPEED CHASES AND HAVE RACE TRACK DRIVERS.

Three Comrades by Erich Marie is even better than All Quiet. It’s even set in the same universe as All Quiet on the Western Front, so technically Remarque is one of the first modern writers to create a cinematic universe with crossover camos.

Funny considering Remarque *wasn’t even originally called Remarque*. His last name originally read “Remark”, but he changed it to “Remarque” to sound fashionable.

    4. As Remarque didn’t live in Germany anymore when the Nazis took power, they couldn’t hurt him directly, so they went for the nasty and petty: they went for his sister. Some Karens snitched on her for bitching about Hitler. The Nazis dragged her in front of the People’s Court where Freisler, the High Judge said:

*”Your brother is unfortunately beyond our reach – you, however, will not escape us.”*

      She was guillotined.

I know you are talking about WW1, but something interesting about WW2 and WW1 together

The jews did contribute to losing WW2. It costs resources to kill millions of people.

Like seriously the Holocaust was not only evil, but stupid as well. Tons of resources and manpower that could be used for the war wasted.

Now, in WW1, they had those resources and manpower. They literally put themselves in a worse position by blaming the Jews.

I mean, to be fair, hating people for having a fr*nch name is valid, but not the rest.
