To be fair, there is more to Japanese history than just that. And if that is all you talk about it sounds less like you are interested in history and more like you have an axe to grind.

Japanese Empire’s conquest was both crazy and brutal combined.
it feels like the two koreas, china and maybe taiwan? are really the only ones with personal hatred with japan. The SEAblings seem to be chill towards japan nowadays.
like if you were to wave a rising sun flag in east asia except japan, you would probably be in danger but try that in southeast asia and no one will most likely care.

This is a case where everyone has skeletons in their closet.
I mean Japan has more or less done a great job investing in the world but especially in Southeast Asia so they made up for all the stuff plus they did rapidly modernize. I do know more than just WW2 stuff.
I know that people my age like the pop culture (kind of to some degree) but I remember going for the historical sites.
