The man marched head on into a impassable swamp which was full of guerrillas, expecting an easy victory.
As could be expected by quite literally anyone else(including union higher command), he got ambushed.
If I had a nickel for every time General Truman Seymour fucked over the 54th Massachusetts, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s very fucking weird that it happened twice.
For context….he’s the reason why the 54th Massachusetts were the first wave at Fort Wagner (ie Glory) and they suffered 40% casualty rate….
