    1. The battle of vienna is often portrayed as a clash of the cross against the Cresent. but however, the real history is not as black and white as this.

Firstly there were the Muslim [Lipka Tatars](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipka_Tatars) who faught side by side with the poles and wore straw springs on their helmets to distinguish themselves from the tartars fighting for the ottoman side.

Secondly there were the protestants led by [Emeric Thököly](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emeric_Th%C3%B6k%C3%B6ly), who had been in rebellion against the Hapsburg empire, and he would go onto provide material aid to the Turks in the siege of Vienna.

    2. The wars between the Ottomans and HRE as a whole were never really ‘a clash of cross and crescent’ as much as a struggle between two empires who used faith as just another weapon.

If religion was actually such a major factor, the Franco-Ottoman alliance wouldn’t have happened.

It def was such a clash, even if you have some outliers that sided with the other side, like in every war.
