The entire Soviet-Afghanistan conflict killed about 15,000 Soviet soldiers (higher estimates put it at about 26,000). It is widely regarded as a huge strategic mistake that accelerated the fall of the Soviet Union.
In a recent joint investigation, the BBC estimates that up to **352,000** people have been killed so far fighting on Russia’s side in the Russian invasion of Ukraine (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c62n922dnw7o).
It’s easy to forget how historical the times are we are living in.
