For Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unrealised 1970s adaptation of Dune, he assembled a group of visionary artists he called his “Spiritual Warriors”. These artists produced over 3,000 drawings for the film’s massive storyboard.
Artists include
Jean “Moebius” Giraud,
H.R. Giger,
Chris Foss,
Dan O’Bannon.

I figure for a movie being developed around the time of Star Wars, turning the artwork into a movie was probably beyond the tech of the time.
