First of all, NO THIS IS NOT QUEE RPHOBIC. Sappho was a poet from the island of Lesbos in Greek, as the name suggests: "LESB IAN" would mean anyone who is from Lesbos (like American for those from America, European for those from Europe, Australian for those from Australia).
The poet Sappho is known for her works in Same Gender love, who lived around 600 BCE. Sappho was the person, and Lesbos was the place. So technically Sappho would have loved the popularity of the word 'Sapphic' over 'Les bian', and that is the meme. (Although people associated Lesbos with Sappho, and we are aware about the rest of the history).

I mean, i think it’s correct because as far we know Sappho loved both women and men. Sapphic being a term used for any girl that likes other girls, without erasing the possibility of those to also like boys it’s something that she’d be pretty happy about because it’d be her actual situation
Oh you’re a lesbian? Name three lesbians from Lesbos.
Lesbosian?
I feel like she’d be thrilled because it’s her fault
The sad thing about Sappho is that most of her writing was lost
Not because of any censorship or anything else like it was once claimed.
Rather because the dialect of Greek she spoke/wrote was so different from the one popularised by Alexander’s conquest, that most people weren’t able to read it. Books not being popular/read meant they weren’t copied and became lost
Sapphic just sounds stupid.
A lot of words are or are not used due to how well they flow off the tongue.
It’s also why a lot of people will still use the term “gay” simply because it’s less syllables.
