This is just the difference between vikings on raids and vikings at home, except the hornet helmets

The show Norsemen found a happy medium between these two archetypes. It’s a really good and funny show.

But everyone agrees that if they could, they WOULD have worn horned helmets

If you rape murder and pillage only 1% of the time, you are still a rapist, murderer and thief.

Everyone gotta have a more nuanced backstory nowadays. We all poets and had laws nowadays, we weren’t just “barbarians”. Everyone and they dog weren’t just pillagers, they were highly intricate societies.

Man get tf out with your soft girl era.

If you was Viking you bashed monks’ skulls, got that Danegeld and did blood eagles on people’s backs. You was a scary mf. That ain’t Gon change

Viking (raiding) is a verb. A Dane, Swede, or Norman could go Viking. And one who went Viking is a Vikinger.

They’re portrayed as being hearth warriors when they sucked against literally anyone who wasn’t a helpless villager caught by surprise

There’s no such thing as a “viking farmer” viking means raider. When on raids their job is viking, when at home their job is farmer. Viking is a job

But you realize the reading and pillaging is like the defining factor of what makes someone a Viking right?

Don’t forget that men could divorce their wives if they wore men’s clothing. Women could also divorce men if they wore effeminate clothing (showed too much of his chest).

The women also held the keys cause they had authority over food chests and rationed it accordingly.

    12. Oh no, vikings were very much the top one when they were out raiding, pillaging and raping.

Nah, outside of the horned helmets, movies actually portrayed vikings accurately, that’s what they were doing during raids.

Not all Norse are vikings and not all vikings are Norse. All Vikings are violent. It’s in the name. Most Norse were not vikings because they didn’t go viking.

*were still technically barbarians* and commited murder rape and pillage endlessly because viking wasn’t just all Norse people it was specifically the raiding people.

Read this piece a while back. It mentioned that Vikings loved to raid churches, because, well, that’s where the money was. As a result, priests wrote a ton about how awful Vikings were. But guess what, there weren’t many other people writing books at the time and if they did, their work hasn’t survived. So here we are, with most of these stories about Vikings coming from their victims.
