Wow TIL storing cut avocados with onions in an airtight container prevents browning by creating a sulfur-rich environment then inhibits oxygen!

I store avocados in screw top mason jars in the refrigerator, and they easily last days.

I think the key to avocados is to store them on the counter until they are ripe and then immediately put them in the refrigerator. After you cut them, put them in a sealed container and back into the refrigerator.

    3. I’ve heard rumor that it has more to do with storing it with the pit. Haven’t tested, and all hearsay.

That’s because brown is made from red, green, and blue. You are missing the blue.

And now the avocado actually has a flavor. The flavor is red onion but it’s flavor.

For a second I thought you were showing off a really shitty bowl of guacamole

Maybe it was leaving the stone in it that prevented it from browning?

Mine didn’t have the same results, then again, I stored my avocado with a turd.

Guys just store it in a bowl of water. It’s fool proof. Works every time

Any onion will do. They release sulfur-dioxide gas with generates sulfuric acid upon contact with water. This is why they make your eyes burn.

I store mine in a small bowl of water. Put the sliced part towards the bottom of the bowl in the water. Doesn’t brown.

take a ripe avocado and put it in a container of water and put it in the fridge and it will still be perfectly ripe weeks later. an old puerto rican novia trick

    13. Neat way to preserve onions I guess.

Make sure to properly dispose the avocado.

I constantly see and hear things about storing avocados “properly” but like….how does one even get here, just eat the whole thing after cutting what’s the big deal

    15. Avocado, red onion, yellow mustard, and black pepper makes one of the greatest sandwiches ever

    16. One time I left a dried up backwood next to a banana peel and an hour later the backwood was so moist

I just cover the other half with press and seal then put it in the fridge. I know I’ll eat it with 24 hours anyway.

i ate half an avocado, stored the other half on the shelf of my fridge. Next day, both were brown.

    19. It’s staying good because you left the pit in.

An avocado pit will keep the avocado from turning brown after you cut into it. My sister in law puts a couple pits in her Guacamole and it keeps it from turning brown while it’s sitting out at parties.

I kinda doubt the onions are doing anything
