Huntsville is in Alabama… For those not keeping track, this is an intellectual hub serving many industries and rapidly growing. It’ll continue to rise no doubt as more educated people follow those jobs into the state and alter the fabric of society down there.

Hey! I’m a hillbilly from the Appalachian mountains of NE Alabama, and back in the early ’90s Tonie Niblett taught me Calculus. The best math teacher to ever walk the face of the earth. And now I’m in my 50s working on a Masters of Science Computer Science with a Specialization in AI at Georgia Tech. We can math in Alabama. 😆 People used to joke about people from the area getting engineering jobs with TVA by saying “Four years ago I couldn’t spell engineer, but now I are one.”

Based on what data? What testing? Is everyone taking the same test? Or is this like most red states where they lower the standard and quality of education then point to how great they’re doing? Feels like the latter.

One thing to understand about Alabama is that there are plenty of super high achieving schools, especially public schools in North Alabama. Most schools in our area are putting out a dozen or more 32+ ACT kids a year. Multi million dollar academic facilities.
The problem is that schools are funded a ton through property tax. So the affluent and wealth areas near Huntsville get nicer homes, higher property taxes. The poorer areas in the black belt don’t have the job availability, thus they have cheaper houses and properties which lead to lower property taxes, which lead to worse schools, which leads to companies not wanting to build there because of their poverty school system and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy

The joke is funny because the Alabamanites are bad at math and – hence – do not realize that their smaller numbers are actually lower than those of the Californians and New Yorkers

But they got rid of the Department of Education so going to school and learning is no longer required by the government, all the deep south rednecks are willing to learn now because there’s not somebody telling them to do it…

The data analysis and reading comprehension used to make this meme are exactly what I would expect from Alabama.
