Well for me that makes her one of the most beautiful women in the world!

Omg πŸ’”πŸ’”… I can not imagine the body dismorphia she experienced on top of mfs making fun of her just so she can make money πŸ˜”πŸ˜•

The ‘before’ photo strikes me as BS. Where is Snopes when you need it?

She’s an inspiration, but man humanity really sucks. Imagine having a stable job, then one unfortunate accident or unexplained condition/illness later, you’re out in the streets and for what? Just because you don’t look presentable anymore?

    5. The before picture isn’t the same person, that Edith Cavell, a WW1 nurse.

That’s not an accurate ‘before’ picture. It’s not her.

But regardless she suffered humiliation to feed her kids. Extremely strong woman.

If I recall correctly, she lost her husband, and with his passing and took the “ugliest woman” job with the circus to make ends meet for her children. She was described as being a kind woman who happened to get a very raw deal and tried to make the best of things so her children could grow up outside of poverty.

Makes you feel even worse knowing there was a market for people to openly judge her and that she needed to endure it for 13 years until she died.

This again. There is absolutely no evidence of any relationship between these pictures. The story is real, but that β€œbefore” picture was slapped on and bounces around the internet with no evidence that it is her.

Edit to add: ahh, the actual person in the before pic is Edith Cavell:

If I’m not mistaken she was incredibly successful and made a very good living off of the circus.

Honestly even asides from the obvious horror of the situation she was forced into, she doesn’t even look that bad. Ig the beauty standards of that time weren’t much different to now…

Never seen the “before” photo associated with this story. Smells like bs.

I know that she is long gone; however, all that I want to do for her is this:

Remind me of my friend who was voted most ugly student in middle school

Wow! She was so pretty too! Poor woman getting shown around as β€œthe world’s ugliest” is so fucked!

The comments here are really helping me right now I’ve lost a lot of faith in people lately and I needed to see this.

God bless the woman and her family, she is the type of strength and love that I’d call heroic.

At those times people were coming to watch those « freaks » and laugh at them. So I imagine she had to cope a lot with people laughing at her appearance. It should have been a very difficult job for her. But her heart of a nurse was pure and she did it for her children.

Not 1st time seeing this, but never knew it was because of disease. Always tought she was born like that.
So wrong, she was very gorgeous, beautiful.
