When Napoleon I abdicated for the second time, he tried having his 4-year-old son succeed him, but the French government quickly abandoned him and restored the Bourbon monarchy. Napoleon II was nominally Emperor for 2 days, never ruled France, and died of tuberculosis at age 21.

    1. I made this less to make fun of a boy who never really had a chance, and more to answer the question everyone had upon finding out out there was a third Napoleon: “There was a second Napoleon?!”

Imagine being Emperor for 48 hours and spending the rest of your life on permanent ‘educational’ leave in Vienna.

    3. I think it’s more he’s called Napoleon II because Napoleon III needed legitimacy.

Had he not died. I think 1848 would have been very very different. Metternich had to flee vienna. He couldnhave made a run for france. Which was already looking for napoleanic shit
