I analyzed Reddit discussion around 44 e-readers and grouped the mentions by device, brand, sentiment, and recurring buying factors like display quality, file support, reading comfort, ecosystem, annotation, battery life, software quality, and value.

The interesting part to me was how different the praise clusters were. Kindle gets a lot of discussion volume, Kobo shows up strongly around comfort/ecosystem/software, PocketBook stands out for file support, and Boox/Onyx does well around flexibility and file support.

This is based on Reddit discussion, not lab testing, so I’d treat it as a map of what people talk about and praise rather than an objective “best device” ranking.

      Source/methodology:

I analyzed 5,650 product mentions across e-reader-related Reddit discussions, covering 44 e-reader models. Mentions were grouped by device and brand, then classified by sentiment and recurring buying factors such as display quality, file support, ecosystem, annotation, battery life, software quality, reading comfort, and value.

      A few caveats:

      – This measures Reddit discussion, not objective product quality.

      – Reddit overrepresents enthusiast communities.

      – Popular devices naturally attract both more praise and more criticism.

      – Some model references can be ambiguous, so the data is directional rather than perfect.

Data/charts are from my Reddit product research project, RedDB:
