Five SS men are forced to walk past the corpses of prisoners exhumed from a mass grave near Nammering. They’d changed into civilian clothes in a failed attempt to evade capture. According to the photographer, the five men were all shot after this photo was taken (Germany, May 6, 1945) [1170 x 924].

    1. >Be a young German man in May 1945

      >Be in the SS

      >Be in suspiciously close proximity to a death march that was committed by the SS

      >Change into civilian clothing in an attempt to conceal your SS affiliations

      >Allied soldiers don’t believe you

      >Of course they didn’t; you have a SS tattoo of your blood type under your left arm

      >Soldiers interpret your attempt to conceal your SS affiliations as consciousness of guilt in regard to the death march, to which you were in suspiciously close proximity

      >Deeming you a liar and a mass murderer, the soldiers summarily execute you after forcing you to walk past the bodies of the victims

Didn’t really think that one through.
