This is a reference to a joke found on a clay tablet from 4,000 years ago. The translation is as follows: **A dog walks into a bar and says ‘I can’t see a thing’. I’ll open this one.’**

Something is lost in the translation and there’s debate as to what the joke is actually.

The fact that everyone in this scene are all dead and it’s an illusion makes the connection better.

Everyone is in on the joke except for us poor living bastards on the other side of history.

I like to think that nothing was lost in translation, it was just written by the worst comedian of their time

Gonna combine my 3rd-hand knowledge of Sumerian drinking culture and basic idea of human joke structure and take a stab at it.

So, the Sumerian idea of “beer” was pretty much incompatible with our idea of beer. They hadn’t quite figured out yeast yet, they just knew that certain pots made good beer. (Because the pots had been colonized by brewer’s yeast.) Their beer was also SUPER thick and often had chunks floating in it, so it was typically drunk through a straw to filter out the bigger bits.

Beer-drinking was also an even more communal activity than it is now. Rather than everyone drinking from their own glass, multiple people would stick long straws into a larger vessel, typically placed on the ground. Sumerian brewhouses were also often fairly dark, because the best sources of indoor light in that time and place also made things hot.

      So, the joke.

A dog walks into a dark place with odd smells, seeking a drink. The drinking vessels are at the end of long, thin objects extending down towards the floor. The dog takes a stab in the dark and reaches for one.

Dog bites a man’s dick. That’s the joke.

    6. Could i get some info please on why suddenly all the memes in the sub are using the same animated source as template?
