In Manavgat, Turkey, police responded to a 33 y/o man threatening to take his own life on a rooftop. During the standoff, he told officers he was extremely hungry. Instead of using force, they ordered him a döner kebab. The man calmed down, stepped away to eat, and was safely taken into custody for medical and psychological help.

I’ve never had a Kebab myself but apparently they are quite tasty. I’ll try one if the opportunity presents itself.

    3. I read this couple of weeks ago and it was shawarma not Kebab

Or is this a different case

    4. I mean that’s exactly what I would want in that situation….it’d work on me.

If I was gonna commit suicide, and I wish I could say I hadn’t ever considered it, I would find something more surefire than a 3 story building. He may survive that fall and end up a paraplegic or something.

Sometimes my mind goes into really dark places when I’m hungry, so I get this.

I’m a certified crisis negotiator through Crisis Systems Management (CSM). What’s happening here is what is called a Positive Police Engagement (PPE). Basically, throughout a negotiation you are building rapport with the individual, and one of the ways you do that is by giving things like food, drinks, etc.

What I imagine happened here was they used the Kebab as a tool to get him to come down. It’s likely negotiation was going on for a while and the individual was hungry, so they told him if he comes down they’ll get him a Kebab.

döner usually stops my girlfriend from getting murderous, I could see how it could work for suicide as well.
