Since the US isn’t a reliable ally anymore, I will be glad if all US troops would leave our country as fast as possible. Under a president like Trump it’s more likely that they would stab us in the back instead of supporting us if Russia would attack. The small, local economic benefits of the bases aren’t worth the risk.

In a 2018 YouGov poll, only 37% of the German population supported the stationing of foreign troops in their country. That figure is likely significantly lower today.
For decades, the well-known slogan “Ami, go home!” (in English, no translation) has been used in Germany, referring to US troops.
Trump is vastly mistaken about the situation in Germany.

Serving in Germany twice was the highlight of my 26-year career in the U.S. Army. Americans hold valuable real estate in Germany, and while taking it back might please some Germans, the presence of U.S. troops also brings economic benefits, so mixed feelings there I imagine. With France offering NATO a nuclear deterrent and the United States seeming like a less reliable ally, I could imagine Germany telling us to pack up and leave. Without a logistical hub in Europe, U.S. interference around the world would be harder—maybe for the better. It’s unfortunate to see Germany shift from a trusted ally to the target of our moron president’s ire. All that goodwill we have been trying to build over the last eighty years flushed down Trump’s golden toilet.

I can’t imagine how dumb you have to be to think it’s a *privilege* to have US troops stationed in your country. We’ve spent decades building up bases overseas to extend our power, and now it’s all just dust in the wind before a man baby’s ego
